Full Snow Moon
An invitation to notice what Snow has to teach us
Tonight, February 1, 2026, Grandmother Moon rises in her fullness to celebrate the Snow Moon. This full moon feels appropriately named as I gaze out the window upon the piles and drifts of hardened snow all around me.
Where I live, we are deep in the heart of a true winter experience which is not always guaranteed in this part of the country. A recent snow (and sleet) storm has blanketed the once bare ground with several inches of snow that have frozen nearly solid.
Schools have been closed for the entire week. Government offices also closed. We are forced to stay inside to rest and snuggle with our fur babies under cozy blankets to stay warm. I don’t hate it.
I am grateful for this stillness. It invites a time to pause and reflect on what has unfolded as well as look ahead to what will burst forward in the spring. This balance between the desire for stillness and hope for what is emerging is aligned with this particular full moon that rises at the midway point between the Solstice and the Equinox.
Learning from Snow
Regardless of the weather you are currently experiencing, we can listen to what Snow has to teach us. Just as each of us are unique, snowflakes are uniquely designed. Each flake forms differently through constantly changing tiny variations in the atmosphere. Once the flake falls, its first job is to bond together with other flakes in a process called sintering to from the snow.
Snow reminds us of our uniqueness and the impact we have as a community when we bond with one another in the art of sacred conversation.
An Invitation
You are invited to witness the enchantment of the Full Snow Moon. You may choose to do this outside where you can gaze up at the moon, or inside near a window where you can see the moon if possible.
As you gaze up at the moon, center yourself with a grounding practice to fully arrive. Take a few deep cleansing breaths. Allow time for your eyes to adjust to the dim light. Begin to notice the landscape around you. How has it changed under the light of the moon? Consider the uniqueness of the individual trees, bushes and structures around you. Next, shift your perspective to the collective. What do you notice about the landscape and the interconnectedness of all beings - human and other?
Stay as long as feels right. Before leaving, offer your gratitude for all that you have and all that you are. You were uniquely created to be here in this time in our unfolding, and just like a snowflake you were designed to bond in community with the whole. You are not alone.
Full Moon Water
As part of your full moon ceremony and ritual, you may choose to leave a goblet of water to charge under the moonlight. Whisper your intentions and blessings into the water. Let Grandmother Moon work her magic overnight to infuse the water with the energy of the Snow. In the morning, you may choose to drink the water, use it to cleanse your body in the shower, or offer it to a plant or animal friend.
Journal Prompts
A full moon is the is the perfect time to check in with the intentions you set at the start of the lunar cycle. How are things going for you? As the moon wanes think about what you need to complete. Consider what you might let go of to make room for something new to emerge as we welcome in a new lunar cycle on February 17th.
Refer to the article below for a refresher on the journal prompts for the Snow Moon lunar cycle.
A Snow Moon Blessing
May you go forth held by the quiet wisdom of the moon,
remembering that you, like every snowflake, are unique.
Your essence, your story, your particular way of moving through the world
is needed now more than ever.
May you also remember the teaching of snow sintering,
that even the most delicate crystals grow stronger
when they meet, touch, and slowly bond.
May your connections deepen like snowflakes fusing in stillness,
creating a foundation that can bear weight, carry dreams,
and support the journeys of others knowing you are never alone.
Go with the blessing of the Snow Moon,
a reminder that individuality and belonging
are not opposites but companions,
each making the other more beautiful.
Frolic on!

So beautiful, Barbara. Even though in my part of the world, I must dream of snow, your description brought it to life for me in a special way. I also love your heartfelt blessings that you leave us with—so tender and loving! Thank you 🙏
